Another area that Habiscapes excels in is the restoration and/or maintenance of 'natural' areas. By understanding the special requirements of the native plant community, Habiscapes can recommend and implement restoration strategies and its attendant maintenance needs in local communities or at the private homeowner's yard.
Recently, Habiscapes was contacted by Environmental Coordinator Claudia Druss of Hidden Springs for a community sponsored project. Their ten acre wetlands preserve had become overrun by noxious weeds. Claudia wanted to return the small pond and adjacent wetlands area to as close as possible to its former condition. Working jointly with Claudia's and the communities goals in mind, Habiscapes developed and implemented a strategy to restore the area to its former state and encourage new growth of the native plant community by naturally suppressing the weeds. In addition, a long term strategy was put in place to manage the weeds on an annual basis and supplement the native plantings with either cuttings or transplants where appropriate. Such actions will not only encourage the return of the wetlands to a more natural state but will help to increase the biodiversity of the area and ensure its overall vitality for years to come!
